Thomas D. Short 67, of Stockton, Missouri passed away August
13, 2009. He was initiated August 5, 1963 and retired
November 15, 1997. He’s been a member for 46 years.

UPCOMING EVENTS
LABOR DAY
PARADE AND PICNIC
Local 533 and other unions in the area will be participating
in this year’s Labor Day Parade Monday, September 7, 2009.
The parade starts at 11:00 a.m. and will begin at the
intersection of Memorial Drive and Main Street and ends at
Liberty Memorial. After the parade, the celebration
continues with a family picnic. The Pipefitters will be
offering free grilled meals and beverages to
Local 533 members and their families. Attractions include
kids’ entertainment featuring clowns, inflatables, mobile
arcade, Motocross stunt riders and live music by local
country and rock bands. Let’s show our support by attending
this day of celebration and we hope you and your family will
join in the fun.
PICNIC ANNOUNCEMENT
This year’s
annual picnic will be held Saturday, September 19,
2009 at Swope Park Grand Stand by the Zoo entrance, from
12:00 Noon to 6:00 p.m. Zoo passes will be given to anyone
wishing to go to the zoo. The cost is $30.00 per family,
$20.00 for single member and single members may bring a
guest at a cost of $30.00. Lunch will be from 1:00 –
3:00 p.m., Fiorella’s Jack Stack BBQ. Hamburgers and Hotdogs
will be served all day.
Moonwalk and activities for
kids, horseshoes and Bingo. Please contact the Hall
at (816) 523-1533 if you plan on attending. Picnic flyers
will be mailed.
We look forward to seeing all
of you there.
GOLF TOURNAMENT
Larry Mitchell's Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at
the Hillcrest Country Club in Kansas City, Missouri on
Saturday, October 17, 2009, 8:00 A.M. Shot Gun Start.No
Denim is allowed and collared shirts are required.
Breakfast at 7:00 A.M. at the Union Hall and Lunch and
Awards afterwards at the Hall, lower level. Please contact

REMINDER
Bob Burks is at the
Union Hall every Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. to 4:30
P.M.
and later at Union Meeting held the first Tuesday night of
each month.

- RETIREES
We hope all enjoyed the ice cream at our August meeting. The
Pipefitter Retirees will meet Wednesday, September 16th
at Noon for their usual potluck and meeting. For the
potluck you are asked to bring an entree plus a side dish,
salad or dessert. We ask that you bring your own table
service. Drinks will be provided. We hope to see you there!

PIPEFITTERS CONTINUING EDUCATION
Night classes will begin August 31st.
Journeymen may participate in Apprentice
classes, contact the Training Center for
details. Classes offered: Backflow
Certification (2nd semester), CAD,
Carbon Monoxide Safety and Awareness, Green
Awareness, Foreman Training, NFPA70E Safety,
Refrigerant 410A Safety, Rigging, Orbital
Welding and OSHA 10. Backflow
recertification class will be offered this fall.
Foreman Training class will begin on Monday,
August 31st at 6:00 P.M. Additional Journeyman
classes will be made available based on
enrollment and schedule. Please contact the
Training Center at (816) 761-8800 to enroll.
PIPEFITTERS APPRENTICESHIP
PROGRAM
Applications for the Apprenticeship Program will
only be available on the first Monday of every
month, unless that Monday is a holiday,
applications will then be available on the
following Monday. An application can be picked
up at the Training Center from 8:00 A.M. until
4:00 P.M. on the specified Monday only. An
application can be returned to the Training
Center Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M.
until 4:30 P.M.. Anyone interested in
information regarding the Training Center or the
Apprenticeship Program may call for information
at (816) 761-8800 or check the Training Center
web site at pftc533.com.
